Amy socks

Made with Heart and Sole by Red Heart, in the Spring Stripe colorway.

I divided one ball in half in an effort to match the socks. As I started the second sock, though, the colors turned out to be changing in the opposite direction. If you look at the top of the first sock (the one with the pink edging on the cuff) it looks like the ball starts reversing color order right there in mid-cuff. So I frogged the second sock start and reversed that ball — and it’s a good match at least up to the cuff.

These socks use Judy’s magic cast on. They have a short row heel where every row starts with a slipped stitch and, after the decreasing short rows, you knit or purl two together and then make one in order to close the gaps. The cuffs are 1×1 rib bound off by knitting two stitches, putting them back on the left needle, and knitting two together.

The lace pattern is as follows (knit all even rows):

1. k2, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, k2
3. k1, k2tog, yo, k4, yo, ssk, k1
5. k2tog, yo, k6, yo, ssk
