Baptized

Amy was baptized yesterday.

Before and after, she competed with the noises of singing, praying, and speaking with loud babbles.

She fell asleep in Mark’s arms shortly before the baptism. Much to our surprise and amusement, she stayed asleep for the whole sacrament — opening her eyes at the transfers to and from the pastor’s arms, conking out again immediately, and apparently not at all noticing the handful of water on her head (although the wet hair curled).

Our pastor invited my parents to stand with us, and my dad held the bowl of water. The pastor presented us with a lovely calligraphy print of the ABCs with Scriptures.

This was also our last Sunday at New Life Presbyterian.

Goodbye, swing

Since Amy can reach out and grab the swing frame with a jolting halt, and hang her head almost far enough over the side to hit it on the frame while swinging, and since we’re moving this week, it’s time to say goodbye to the swing.

First, one last ride:

Then, discovering it could be used for standing practice:

We tried to give it away on Freecycle. When that didn’t work, we sold it to MamaGoose. Usually people do it the other way around, trying to sell first, but with Freecycle you don’t have to go anywhere (people come to pick stuff up), and it’s not like MamaGoose was willing to give much money for a wind-up. Silly. It’s a wonderful swing. Has a longer swing arc and a more natural swinging motion, doesn’t require batteries, runs quiet… it’s a very nice swing. Oh well — it’s gone now, having served us well.
