Amy’s Morning

A while ago I wrote a tune; really I just started humming something as I swayed Amy back and forth, trying to calm some fussies. As I hummed it took the shape of this tune, which I’ve called “Amy’s Morning.”

She’s been very fussy today and I’ve been mad. But then I put her in the sling and played her tune for us both.

(Ugh, the sound doesn’t track with the video.)

Oatmeal of a different sort

1. Amy went to the doctor today for her four-month checkup and shots. She’s doing very well; weighs 15 lbs 4 oz now, whew! The big deal is that we can now introduce food. We start with baby oatmeal, then depending on how her bowels are handling things, move on to yellow veggies, then green, then fruits — one new food at a time, a week between new foods. We can also start giving her water to drink. She hasn’t figured the sippy cup yet (obviously we have to hold it for her), but she did pretty well with her first serving of oatmeal, even though it looked like water with one or two oatmeal atoms in it. The directions say to start it out that way, which I guess makes sense, before trying thicker consistencies.

2. Dinner was good.

3. I put a collage of Amy’s four-month-old pictures on the computer desktop, prepared another set of pictures for printing, and put last year’s pictures on a CD.

4. I knit another row on the sweater I started last year.

5. I appreciate my friends.

Bathtime

1. Mark is good at and has the energy for Amy’s bath.

2. She seems to enjoy the secondhand baby tub I bought on a whim while at Mama Goose looking for a secondhand stroller (they had one but it was bulkier and more expensive than I wanted).

3. I wore a favorite dress today. I’ve had it about thirteen years now. I eventually had to cut the short sleeves off because they got too tight, but that’s not a problem because I usually wear something over the top anyway. It has a wonderful drape and soft fabric in a soft, subtle, tiny, warm plaid.

4. I finished putting a set of pictures in our album — I’m now just a month and a week behind.

5. I’ve had two quite intense dreams the last two nights; not particularly pleasant ones, but interesting and vivid.

This is the hat Aunt Deanne sent before Amy was born; it’s still a bit big but how cute!
