This evening we got a call from Compassion International. Rudi, the Indonesian girl we’ve been sponsoring since she was seven, who is now seventeen, has gotten married.
That’s all we know.
We don’t know if it was an arranged marriage, whether her husband is Christian, Muslim, or something else, whether she wanted to marry or not. Last we knew, her plans were to go to college and become a teacher. She is a bubbly girl who likes to sing, compete in games, and hang out with her friends. We’re not sure whether to be happy for her or not.
The marriage ends our sponsorship (Compassion’s policy). We can send her a gift and a final letter, and I hope we get a final letter from her!
We will likely sponsor another child, but we want to talk with someone and learn more about what has happened, and then we’ll need to talk about whether we care if our new child is a boy or a girl or from what country.
Will you please keep us updated on this? I hope you will get a final letter, too! (((((HUGS))))) sandi
