It’s the third bedroom, which combines music room, some office stuff, books, sewing, scrapbooking, and so on. So it’s not just the music room, and it’s not just the craft room, and it’s not really the office or library. Since it’s painted lavender, we’ll just call it the lavender room.
Today, it has reached usable condition.
The bookcases are on one wall and already stocked.
The ficus tree that my sister gave me for high school graduation — one of two plants I bother to keep alive (or that stays alive in spite of me) — lives in the corner between the bookcases and the window.
In the other window corner is an improvised desk made of sideways crates and a board. In one pair of crates is art and scrapbooking stuff, and sewing stuff is in the other pair. On top of the board is a drawing of the corner desk I’d like to build — something simple out of 1/2 or 3/4 cabinet grade plywood.
Opposite the window, just to the right of the doorway, is the closet, stocked with boxes of CDs, filing cabinets, pa equipment, and a variety of other things.
And…
Between the closet and the desk…
Is now standing…
My hammered dulcimer.
Which happens to sound quite in tune (at least with itself), amazing considering I haven’t tuned it or touched it at all since the Hanshaw Trio’s party on June 17. That’s nearly a month, and while it’s been in the case all that time, it’s been in the car and at the Ithaca closing and at our Cleveland hosts’ home and so on, and it’s still sounding quite good.
It was nice to play it again, and Amy sang along while she played with some blocks in the middle of the floor.
Cool stuff! Getting moved in and unpacked! Congrats!
And having your dulcimer out and set up, and having played it is cool! But probably the coolest is Amy singing along with your playing! Too cool!

I should name my all purpose room as well. LOL. But what? I can’t name it after the colour of the walls…they’re white. I just call it the office.
So Amy sings now huh? And claps. To have your dulcimer out I am sure gives your new home the feeling of being your own. It is important to have material things closest to our heart out where we can see them. It helps us adjust to the move better.

I’m so happy to hear you’re getting settled. Moving can be so stressful. And it sounds like Amy is doing well. I read about the dial up. Sorry to hear it. I think I’d go nuts if I ever had to go back to dial up. Oh wait… I’m already nuts.

Oh, I’m using the term “sing” loosely — she made her noises while I made mine.
Austin, your all-purpose room could easily become “the sunflower room” with the help of some construction paper and thumbtacks.
Katm, today it occurred to me to put my knitting basket by the computer. Now as I wait for a page to load I can knit a few stitches instead of just sitting here.
